Cafec filters, designed and manufactured in Japan, create a depth of change to your brew depending on the type of filter used. 

Abaca Filters - Medium-high flow, medium-light body. A catch-all filter for all roast levels and brew methods.

CAFEC ABACA filter paper is crafted using Manila hemp (ABACA), a sustainable non-wood material four times stronger than conventional wood pulp, yet half as thin. Combined with responsibly sourced wood pulp from afforestation projects, this composition delivers an eco-conscious filter paper with outstanding performance.

CAFEC’s original Two-Side Crepe design sets these papers apart. Unlike standard filters dried on heated rollers—flattening the crepe structure—CAFEC dries its paper with a hot air blast, preserving the crepe on both sides. This ensures optimal surface area and maintains the ideal crepe height, allowing fine coffee particles to adhere to the paper rather than ending up in the cup. The result: a remarkably clean brew with clarity and balance.

Recognised by the Japan Hand Drip Championship (JHDC), CAFEC ABACA filter papers are officially approved for competition use—celebrated for their ability to produce clean, vibrant coffee with excellent acidity across the roast spectrum.

Abaca Red vs Black - Black (Abaca+), higher body and sweetness allows more fines through vs the Abaca red.

T-92 Series - Slower flow to achieve higher body and preserved acidity

Note - expect long brew times of 5 minutes+. This is intentional to bring out the highest body whilst preserving a level of acidity. The T-92 is intended for light roasts only.

This filter features a crepe only on the outer surface, with a smooth inner surface. Among the three paper types, it has the smallest total surface area.

From the start of brewing, fine coffee particles adhere to the inner surface, limiting water flow and creating a higher level of immersion. 

T-90 Series / TH-3 - Faster flow, designed for clarity and higher extraction potential

Probably the most popular filter here, the T90s are quite fast and allow for a higher dynamic brew style (high agitation, turbulence) without the risk of stalling. Closest to a 'Sibarist' style filter.

TH-3 - Identical to T90, branded differently. The paper is exactly the same!
